MagFuse Inversion Engine
MagFuse takes the magnetic data from Pickaxe Survey Drones, optionally fuses it with Gravwell Gradiometer Array gravity, and inverts both into a 3D model of what lies inside a body. The result is a susceptibility volume, depth-to-source estimates for every anomaly and a ranked list of drill targets.
Joint inversion is the point: magnetic and gravity data constrain each other, so a dense, strongly magnetic blob is far more likely to be metallic iron than either signal alone. Rukmini Sato and Liang Qiao wrote the first version in 2182; it now runs on a laptop in under an hour for a typical 2-kilometre asteroid.
MagFuse is released under GPL-3.0. The repository includes worked examples from the Belt Aeromagnetic Grid and the Ferric Twins survey.
Recent work adds support for Swarm Prospecting Beacon base-station data and a faster solver for very large surveys. The project welcomes contributors with a background in geophysics or numerical methods.
