Jovian Volatiles Census

Survey dataset Ice shells of Callisto, Ganymede and Europa

The Jovian Volatiles Census is the outer-moons team's running inventory of what is frozen into the ice of Callisto, Ganymede and Europa. It brings together 640 Cryo Ice-Core Sampler cores and 18 months of Swarm Prospecting Beacon outgassing readings.

The database lists helium-3 concentration in parts per billion for every core interval, deuterium and oxygen isotope ratios, and high-resolution photographs of each core under polarised light. Paulo Teixeira and Ylva Strand maintain it from Valhalla Station, and the Europa Subsurface Assay Institute contributes its Conamara brine results.

It is released under the Open Database Licence, ODbL-1.0, so you can query and combine it freely, but improved versions of the database must be shared back. Helium-3 buyers use it to judge which moon is worth a Nimbus Gas Skimmer resupply run, and planetary scientists use it to study the age of the ice.

New cores are added after every field season, and beacon readings stream in continuously from the Valhalla trial.
